NH Anti-Recognition Bill Withdrawn

sm-flag-us-nh.gifThe sponsor of a bill to ban interjurisdictional recognition of same-sex marriages and civil unions in New Hampshire has withdrawn the bill.

The bill targeted a provision of New Hampshire’s new civil union law. Under the provision, New Hampshire will recognize - as civil unions - out-of-state same-sex marriages and civil unions. It is a moderate, pragmatic provision that addresses multistate problems without recognizing same-sex marriages as marriages under New Hampshire law.

The bill to modify the provision had been slated for a public hearing.

I have criticized the the modification bill previously. The sponsor, state Rep. Maureen Mooney, deserves credit for apparently reconsidering the merits of the bill and withdrawing it.
